The Alpha Who Saved Me By Stacy Rush Chapter 155
lt;pgt;lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;Chapter 5
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I find myself standing at the foot of the stranger’s bed in the wee hours of the morning. I
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;can’t sleep, and so sneaking away from my mate will probably get me in some hot water,
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;but I have ways of cooling it down. I always live by the saying ‘It’s easier to ask for
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;forgiveness than it is to ask for permission’. Besides, he should know me by now, and I
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;did warn him last night that I would be coming here myself. It’s not my fault he’s a sound
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;sleeper and didn’t hear me tip toeing out the door.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;As for the male asleep in the bed in front of me, it’s hard to see his features because
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Doc has a gauze bandage wrapped thickly around his head. The only good sign that I
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;see is that the male is breathing on his own and I hear a strong and steady heartbeat
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;now.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I walk slowly around to the side of the bed and stare down at him some more. There is
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;something about him that seems to be drawing me to him. Nothing like a mate bond, but
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Enter title…
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;more like a familiarity; like I should know him, but I’ve never seen this male a day in my
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;life.lt;/pgt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;“Oh, Luna! I wasn’t expecting to see you so early.” Dr. Sands smiles as he walks to the
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;other side of the bed with a clipboard. He’s looking at the numbers on the monitors and
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;writing stuff down.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Yeah, I couldn’t sleep, so I figured I would mosey on over. I see that you were able to
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;get his heartrate back up.”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Yes! That’s exactly what I was hoping for when placing him in the coma. If all his vitals
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;do well throughout the day, I will bring him back. You most likely won’t get any answers
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;until tomorrow at the earliest, and that is only if he comes to on his own as well.”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Well s*it, I think to myself, how am I supposed to wait a whole day to get the answers
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;that I’m looking for? Something nags at me, though, almost like a little voice telling me to
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;touch the stranger’s hand, but I don’t want to do it while Jonah is in the room. So, I pull
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;up a chair and sit at his bedside causing Doc to stare at me strangely.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Uh, he isn’t going to wake up on his own, Luna. There is no point in sitting here the
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;whole time.”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I give him a small smile, “Isn’t it true that even comatose patients can hear their
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;surroundings?”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Well, that’s depending on the injury itself, but everybody’s situation is different; everylt;/pgt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;injury is different.”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“It doesn’t matter. I’m going to sit here for a bit, and talk to him, and then maybe he will
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;be more open when he wakes. One can only hope, Doc.”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Hey, suit yourself, Luna. It’s your time, not mine.” He chuckles as he walks from the
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;room.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;It takes me a few minutes to work up the nerve to try touching any part of him. I glance
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;back at his face, “Who are you, and why are you here?” I ask out loud even though my
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;question will go unanswered.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;With a heavy sigh, I reach out, and take his hand. A jolt goes through my entire body and
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;it’s as though I’ve been transported to another place. I find myself in a room with two
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;strangers, the young man that lays in the hospital bed, and an older version of him,
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;which I’m assuming is his father.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“You can’t be serious! That’s all the way on another continent, who cares what happens
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;in America?” I notice the young man has an accent of some kind.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“I don’t care if they are on another planet! We must do our due diligence and get rid of
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;the one that can possibly end us all!”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Says who, father? The mighty Council? What if they are wrong!”lt;/pgt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;“What’s gotten into you, Ledger? You are a Hastings and one day, you will be the head
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;of the Shikari, it’s in your blood! Who are you to doubt what the Council deems
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;important?”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“They are only wolves, Father. What’s the difference between us and them? Neither of
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;us are completely human, and if anything, we are more dangerous because we have
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;magic, so again, why must we have them all killed?”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I yank my hand away from his and back the f*ck up. What the hell was that? I look down
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;at my hand and I notice blue little veins beginning to disappear. My heart is beating
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;rampantly as I try to figure out what the f*ck just happened. Is this one of my powers?
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Can I see things just by touching someone?
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I look back at the stranger, “So, you’re Ledger Hastings. Well, I can’ t say that I’m happy
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;to meet you yet, but it seems as though you may not be the enemy that we thought you
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;were. I guess only time will tell.” I study him for a moment, “If you are supposed to be the
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;next head of the Shikari, why would your own men try to kill you, and better yet, does
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;your father know of this turnabout?”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Being brave one more time, I touch his hand again to see if I can get more information.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Once again, I’m taken somewhere away from the hospital room and the sterile scent thatlt;/pgt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;comes with it. Instead, I’m in a forest and I’m running. Wait a minute, I’ve seen this
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;before; it’s the dream that I could never figure out, so I let it play out once more.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I’m running in the woods in my human form, howls echoing through the trees. They
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;sound as though they are all around me, and they are unfamiliar. An Alpha knows when
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;it’s one of their pack members howling, and none of these belong to mine. I continue to
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;run, and suddenly, I hear it. Mad laughter sounds from right behind me, but when I whip
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;around, there is nobody there. I call out to my wolf, but I get no answer and when I try
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;shifting, nothing happens.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;‘Come out, come out, little wolfie. We want to play.’ I don’t
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;recognize the voice, but it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t sound like a friendly wolf.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Where am I? I wonder as I twirl around, trying to make out my surroundings, but I’ve
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;never seen these woods before, and they smell foreign to me. ‘If you come out now, we
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;will make it quick. You won’t have to suffer, you know.’ Who is that? Deciding that their
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;voice is way too close to my liking, I take off running once more. I continue turning my
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;head to see if they are following me and then suddenly, I break free of the trees and stop
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;dead in my tracks. Before me is a cliff and when I look over the edge, there is no bottom;lt;/pgt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;it’s just an endless fall. When I go to step away, I hear the voice once more, ‘Farewell to
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;you. Finally, we can all sleep better knowing that your kind is gone forever!’ I feel a push
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;and begin to fall over the edge of the cliff, only someone else is with me, and instead of
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;falling to my death, I land softly on my feet. I then turn to see who…
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;I’m pulled roughly away and am unable to finish what I was seeing. I scent my mate right
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;away, “What are you doing? I need to see!” I grab hold of Ledger’s hand once more but
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;there is nothing. I throw my hands up in the air, “That’s just great, you ruined it!”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“What the f*ck were you doing, Quinn?” My mate growls.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Apparently using my magic to get information until you had to go
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;and ruin it!” I stand with my hands on my hips glaring at my mate.
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“Have you seen yourself, Quinn?”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;“What are you talking about?’ I scoff, “Sorry if I didn’t think it necessary to dress fancy
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;just to come to the hospital!”
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;Declan rolls his eyes and then grabs my arm and pulls me over to the sink where there is
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;a mirror hanging right above it. I gasp as soon as I see my own reflection. Blue vein-like
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;lines like the ones on my hands are slowly receding. I glance at my mate in the mirror as
lt;/pgt;
lt;pgt;he stands behind me, flabbergasted.lt;/pgt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;p/gt;
lt;pgt;I give him a guilty little smile, “Oopsie!”
